Why Your Experience Matters (a Lot) in Online Meetings.

GoToMeeting is changing for the better. We’re rolling out a new design for Windows this month that’s going to make hosting meetings simpler and more productive.

We sat down with William Lau, Principal Product Marketing Manager at Citrix, to bring you the lowdown on what’s new and how it’s going to revolutionize your online meetings.

Redesigning a mega-popular service like GoToMeeting is a big, brave undertaking. What spurred the change?

Nowadays, business professionals want to use software that reminds them of their consumer apps, and our customers expect GoToMeeting to be just as simple, intuitive and fast as any other app they use in their daily life. There really doesn’t need to be a distinction between the design or functionality of the two.

So we knew it was time to give our customers a brand-new, modern experience that makes hosting and attending meetings even more delightful.

Our engineers, designers and product managers have done a great job of simplifying the meeting experience. You can break it down to three substantial new features:

  1. The control panel is fully customizable. You can move it, take it apart and even minimize it out of sight. Make it as big or as little part of the meeting as you want so you can keep the focus on your attendees and presentation. See more about how it all works.
  2. All the key functions are front and center. Share your webcam, show your screen, mute and unmute — all just one click away.
  3. The whole experience is smoother, slicker and more beautiful. We’ve really reduced the time between thinking about what you want to do and making it happen. It’s hard to describe until you use it. So be sure to use it!

How will the changes affect the meeting experience?

With a lot of meeting software, you have to constantly interact with the software while you’re meeting. It’s distracting. What we’ve created is an immersive and real experience where you can concentrate on work and relationships, not the software.

We’re rolling it out to all of our customers right now, and everyone will see it when hosting from a PC by the end of March. (The redesign for Mac is on our future roadmap.) It’s a free, automatic upgrade, so you don’t have to do anything to get it.

The new design is just the tip of the iceberg — we’re rolling out lots more innovative features this year, so stay tuned for more news soon!
